Capabilities
This page summarises the full range of capabilities available in xAssets IT Asset Management. Use it as a reference to understand what the system can do and to identify which features are relevant to your organisation's requirements.
Discovery and Integrations
- Discovery Integration -- use xAssets Discovery or integrate with other discovery tools to populate your asset register automatically. Discovery can be agent-based (using the PC Analyser agent) or agentless (using WMI, SSH, or SNMP).
- Built-in Integrations -- out-of-the-box connectors for Active Directory, Microsoft SCCM, Microsoft Intune, JAMF, Azure AD, Azure Cloud, AWS Cloud, Google Cloud, JIRA Service Desk, and OKTA. Integration to other systems is supported and typically straightforward using the transformation engine.
- Recognition Engine -- automatically recognise locations from IP addresses, software titles, operating systems, manufacturers and models, MAC address vendors, and printers. Recognition data updates are provided by xAssets, and custom recognition rules can be created to handle organisation-specific naming.
Hardware Portfolio Management
- Analyse inventory using discovered and manually entered data
- Slice and dice data with interactive charts and on-screen reports using the dashboard system
- Generate printed and PDF reports for distribution
- Receive email alerts when hardware changes occur (e.g., new devices, removed devices, configuration changes)
- Track warranty expiry, asset health, and hardware specifications across the estate
Software Asset Management
- Enter software licences and compare usage against purchases to identify compliance gaps
- Assign licences to specific computers to identify non-compliant devices and optimise licence allocation
- On-screen classification and compliance reporting with drill-down to individual installations
- Report licensing across your business hierarchy (by company, department, cost centre, or location)
- Receive email alerts when software changes occur (e.g., new installations, removals, version changes)
Historical Reporting
- IMACS Reporting -- track Installs, Moves, Additions, and Changes over any time period
- Full Change History -- every change on every asset is stored in the database with timestamps and user details
- Custom Historical Reports -- build reports to any level of complexity using the query and report engine
Additional Capabilities
| Capability | Description |
|---|---|
| Spare Parts Management | Track spare part inventory, reserve parts for specific purposes, and record deployment |
| Storage Management | Move assets into and out of storage with full status tracking and location history |
| Notifications | Built-in email alerts for common IMAC events; custom notifications can fire on any database change, condition, or event |
| Contract Management | Track contract start/end dates, renewal dates, suppliers, and relationships to infrastructure assets |
| Barcoding and Auditing | Support for barcode scanners and physical audit workflows. See the Barcoding Guide. |
| REST API | Programmatic access to asset data for integration with other systems. See the Configuration Guide. |
Customisation
The platform provides deep configuration capabilities, enabling organisations to meet specific requirements even in complex environments:
- Remove unused functions to simplify the interface for different user groups
- Build custom reports, queries, charts, and dashboards
- Create asset-centric functionality specific to your business using forms, menus, and transformations
- Configure email notifications for any event, condition, or data change
- Create discovery scripts and deploy them via logon scripts, collection servers, or push deployment
- Define custom fields (specification data) for any asset type without database changes
Tip: Customisation is covered in detail in the xAssets Configuration Guide. Most customisation can be done through the web interface without programming. Advanced customisation using AMSX scripting, XCS client scripting, or the REST API is covered in the Configuration Guide and Developer Guide respectively.
