Introduction

IT Asset Management Overview

xAssets IT Asset Management (ITAM) is a comprehensive toolset for managing IT infrastructure throughout its entire lifecycle -- from procurement and discovery through to disposal. This page introduces the product and explains what this guide covers.

What Is xAssets ITAM?

xAssets ITAM gives organisations visibility and control over their IT estate. It automatically discovers hardware and software on your network, tracks assets through their lifecycle, manages software licence compliance, and provides reporting and alerting to support operational and financial decision-making.

The system is web-based -- users access it through a browser with no client software to install. It runs on a Microsoft stack (IIS, SQL Server, .NET) and supports both on-premises and hosted deployment.

Core Functions

  • Asset Lifecycle Management -- track assets from purchase to retirement, including procurement, deployment, transfers, and disposal
  • Network Discovery -- automatically discover hardware, software, and configuration data across your network using agentless or agent-based scanning
  • Hardware Portfolio Management -- analyse and report on your hardware inventory by location, department, manufacturer, model, specification, and more
  • Software Asset Management -- manage licences, track compliance, monitor software usage, and identify unlicensed installations
  • IMACS Reporting -- track Installs, Moves, Additions, and Changes over time with full audit history
  • Contract and Lease Management -- monitor contract dates, renewals, and relationships to infrastructure assets
  • Storage and Spare Parts -- manage inventory in storage and track spare part deployment
  • Customisation -- configure reports, workflows, dashboards, and notifications to match your business requirements without code changes

Who This Guide Is For

This guide is written for day-to-day users of xAssets IT Asset Management -- IT asset managers, desktop support staff, procurement teams, and anyone who needs to find, track, or report on IT assets. It assumes the system has already been installed and configured.

For installation, see the xAssets Installation Guide. For configuration and customisation, see the xAssets Configuration Guide.
