Getting Started

Preparing the Browser

Before logging on to xAssets for the first time, ensure your browser is supported and correctly configured. xAssets is a web application that runs entirely in the browser -- no client software installation is required.

Supported Browsers

xAssets version 7.3 and later supports:

  • Google Chrome (recommended) -- provides the best performance and compatibility
  • Mozilla Firefox -- fully supported
  • Microsoft Edge (Chromium-based) -- fully supported

Unsupported Browsers

Microsoft Internet Explorer is not supported. While some pages may partially load, you will experience significantly degraded performance, rendering failures, and unpredictable errors. If your organisation still uses Internet Explorer, switch to Chrome, Firefox, or Edge for xAssets.

Browser Configuration

Before your first login, check the following settings:

  1. Disable popup blockers for the xAssets site. Several features (such as lookup dialogs, report previews, and print views) open in popup windows. If popups are blocked, these features will not work. Add your xAssets URL to the browser's popup exception list.

  2. Allow JavaScript. xAssets requires JavaScript to be enabled (this is the default in all modern browsers). If your organisation enforces restrictive browser policies, ensure JavaScript is permitted for the xAssets domain.

  3. Allow cookies. xAssets uses cookies for session management. Ensure cookies are not blocked for the xAssets domain.

  4. Check screen resolution. xAssets is designed for a minimum resolution of 1280x800. Lower resolutions will work but some dashboard layouts may require horizontal scrolling.

Tip: If you encounter issues where dialogs do not appear or buttons do not respond, the most common cause is a popup blocker. Check your browser's address bar for a blocked-popup indicator and add the xAssets URL to your exceptions list.

Tip: For the best experience, use the latest version of your chosen browser. xAssets uses modern web standards and older browser versions may have compatibility issues.

Network Requirements

xAssets communicates with the application server over HTTPS (port 443 by default). Ensure your network allows outbound HTTPS connections to the xAssets server. If you are using a hosted implementation, the URL will be provided by your administrator (typically https://yourcompany.hosted.xassets.com).

Next Steps

Once your browser is ready, proceed to Logging on for the First Time.
