Selecting Assets
Many operations -- including bulk update, drag and drop, transfers, and disposal -- require you to select one or more assets first. This page explains the selection techniques available in any results screen and how selections interact with other features.
Selection Methods
| Action | Keyboard/Mouse |
|---|---|
| Select a single record | Click the record (on any field that is not a blue link) |
| Select all records | Ctrl+A, or Query > Select All from the menu bar |
| Select a block of records | Click the first record, then Shift+Click the last record |
| Add another block | Ctrl+Shift+Click the last record of the additional block |
| Select individual records | Ctrl+Click each record |
| Deselect a record | Ctrl+Click a selected record to remove it from the selection |
Important Notes on Selection
- Avoid clicking blue links when selecting. Blue links open the record for editing rather than selecting it. Click on a non-link area of the row instead (e.g., a plain-text column or empty space within the row).
- Selections do not persist across pages. If you navigate to the next page of results, your previous selection is cleared. To act on assets across multiple pages, use "View All Records" first to load all results onto a single page, then select.
- Select All applies to the current page unless all records have been loaded. If the results are paged, Ctrl+A selects only the records currently visible.
What You Can Do with Selected Records
Once you have selected one or more records, the Actions on Selected Records menu becomes available. Common actions include:
| Action | Description |
|---|---|
| Bulk Update | Edit the same fields across all selected assets in a single operation. See Bulk Update. |
| Disposal | Mark selected assets as disposed (sold, lost, stolen, etc.). See Disposal. |
| Asset Transfer | Move selected assets to a different location, cost centre, or company. See Transfers. |
| Clone | Create a new asset based on the selected record. See Creating Asset Records. |
| Export | Export the selected records to Excel, PDF, or CSV. |
You can also drag selected records to a tree node to reclassify them. See Drag and Drop.
Tip: Selected records are highlighted in the results list. If you are unsure what is selected, look for the highlighted rows before performing an action.
Tip: To quickly select a large set of records, click the first record, scroll to the last record in the range, and Shift+Click the last record. All records between the two clicks will be selected.
