Enrollment
Enrollment is the process of installing the xAssets discovery agent on computers so they can be automatically discovered and monitored. The Enrollment menu provides tools to deploy the discovery agent to selected computers remotely.
Enrollment Menu
The Enrollment category in the sidebar provides four options:
| Menu Item | Description |
|---|---|
| Enroll Remote Computers | Install the discovery agent on off-network or work-from-home Windows devices. Provides three deployment methods: direct download, collection server push, or PowerShell script distribution. |
| Enroll Selected Computers | Install or upgrade the discovery agent on computers selected from the current query. The computers must be on the same network as an xAssets collection server. |
| Uninstall the Discovery Agent | Remove the discovery agent from selected computers. Runs as a batch job with credential prompts. |
| Remove Discovery Agent Data | Clear discovery agent records from asset entries when an agent was manually uninstalled but the asset still shows it as enrolled. |
Enrolling Computers
Selected Computers
- Navigate to a query that shows computer assets (e.g. the Asset List filtered to hardware)
- Select the computers you want to enroll by checking their rows
- Click Enroll Selected Computers from the Enrollment menu
- The system prompts for credentials to authenticate against the target computers
- The enrollment runs as a batch job and installs the discovery agent
A confirmation message appears: "Discovery Agent installation has been launched as a batch job."
Remote Computers
Use Enroll Remote Computers to deploy the agent to computers outside the local network. The dialog provides three deployment methods:
- Install on each Endpoint — download and install directly on the target machine using an installation code
- Deploy with a Collection Server — automatic deployment via a collection server on the local LAN
- Deploy via Scripts and Email — download PowerShell scripts that can be distributed to users or deployed via group policy
Prerequisites
- The target computers must be accessible from the xAssets collection server
- You need administrative credentials for the target computers
- The xAssets collection server must be running and accessible
- Network firewalls must allow the required ports for agent deployment
After Enrollment
Once the discovery agent is installed, enrolled computers will:
- Automatically report their hardware and software inventory to the collection server
- Be discovered on the schedule configured in your discovery scripts
- Appear in the Asset Inventory Dashboard and related queries
See the Discovery sections of this guide for more information on configuring discovery schedules and analysing discovered data.
